The Imperial County Office of Education student well-being and family resources office will sponsor a youth development and developmental assets workshop at the Barbara Worth Golf Resort near Holtville on Wednesday.

Featured speaker Clay Roberts has been a senior consultant of the Search Institute, based in Minneapolis.

Roberts has recently written a book and video about "asset development" in education.

Roberts will present keys to developing positive assets in youth for their healthy development.

The Search Institute defines "assets" as being both external and internal.

Some external assets may be "support, empowerment, boundaries and expectations and constructive use of time," while internal assets might be a "commitment to learning, positive values, social competencies and positive identities."

The workshop will focus on developing an awareness of the 40 developmental assets, assessing current assets in youth and action in building assets in today's youth.

Roberts has produced five national model programs, including drug and AIDS prevention programs.

The workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday and the price is $20 per person.

Contact the student well-being and family resources office at 312-6498 for more information or to register.
