A 30-year-old El Centro man was arrested on suspicion of robbery Sunday after he allegedly struck a 16-year-old boy and took $10 from him.

According to El Centro police Lt. Paul Longoria, the teen was walking in the 1200 block of Brighton Avenue at 12:31 a.m. when he was confronted by a man.

The teen reported to police that the man, later identified as Alfonso Settle, called to him as he was walking down the street.

At first the youth did not respond but then the teen decided to approach the man.

Longoria said the man started to approach the boy and confronted him, asking whether the teen had been shouting.

The man then started to swing at the youth. When the teen tried to protect himself, the man hit the boy's hand.

The teen, whose name was not released, had been holding $10 in that hand. When he was hit, the money fell to the ground and the man grabbed the money.

Longoria said the teen then ran off and called police. Officers responded and found Settle, who was identified by the teen.

Settle was booked into county jail on suspicion of robbery and a parole violation. His bail was set at $20,000.
