50 years ago — The Central Junior College golf team won the South Central Conference championship in a match in Arcadia on May 4. It was the second Arab title in a row. Carl Haggio, Jack Lehotsky and Joe Gallegos aided in the winning effort.

40 years ago — Steve Edney was the trombone soloist during Friday's spring concert by the Brawley Union High School band, under the direction of Bill Blair. The band recently won an excellent rating at the Southern California music festival in Los Angeles.

30 years ago — A new county ordinance effective June 4 will block the entry of tortillas and other perishable foods from Mexicali, believes Fred Singh, county environmental health director.

20 years ago — The county is "going to get sued" if it sets standards too high for mobile homes when a new law makes it possible to set up a mobile home in any residential area. That was the opinion this week of county Supervisor James Bucher when the board rejected a proposed moratorium on mobile home permits until the state law is effective July 1.
