Yuma Bullfrogs to take on Valley all-star team

The Yuma Bullfrogs minor league baseball team will take on a team of former minor league players from the Imperial Valley at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Stark Field in El Centro.

Members of the Valley team will include former AAA pitcher Steve Whitehead, who played in the Montreal Expos and Florida Marlins organizations and is an assistant coach for the Brawley Union High baseball team; Southwest High assistant coach Tony Gonzalez, who played under Bullfrog Manager Bill Plummer on the Chico Heat; and Brawley High head coach Pedro Carranza, who played in the Colorado Rockies organization.

Proceeds will benefit the Imperial Valley Police Activities League baseball team, which will compete in the national PAL World Series in Florida from July 29-Aug. 5.

Tickets are $2 at the gate for adults, with children under age 12 getting in free.
