Voice: Harvey Corfman, in his third century, just ‘keeps on trucking'

May 08, 2001

I read with interest your article in today's paper about the elderly — those who reach 100. I'm 78, though most would say I'm only 77 because I was born in 1923. But I consider the day I was born as my birthday, and I've had 78 of them.

But that's a different matter; what I wanted to say to our readers is that I know only one person who has lived in three different centuries. That person in Harvey Corfman, now in Holtville, who was born in the 19th century, lived through the 20th, and is now on his third century — the 21st. He has a keen memory, lively wit and hasn't a grumpy bone in his body. I would never consider him elderly until you start counting his birthdays.

His secret? "Just keep on trucking."
