I am writing this letter in response to last week's headlines regarding Barbara Layaye, superintendent of the Imperial Unified School District.
I worked with Mrs. Layaye for six years and found her to be a highly competent, professional educator. I would be happy to work for her again.
One quality she possesses that I find very enlightening is that you always know where you stand with Mrs. Layaye. She pulls no punches. If she is happy with the way you are doing things she will let you know. On the other hand, if she is displeased with your performance, she will let you know. I find comfort in leaders who are direct and up front.
She is a demanding administrator who expects people to be on time and to perform their duties to the best of their ability. I think this is what most taxpayers want and expect.
