CALEXICO — This city's Mayor Pro Tem John Renison and councilman Frank O. Montoya walked into City Hall chambers Friday to sit in on the Housing Authority board meeting.

"False alarm," Montoya said as he walked to his car two minutes later.

Turns out, board chairman John Romo, commissioners Jose Quiroz, Gloria Rodriguez, Manuel Ayala and Isabel Aguilar and authority Executive Director Lupita Rios couldn't make the meeting.

Each sent letters with varied excuses.

At 5:05 p.m. Friday, before Renison and Montoya walked in, Jesus "Chuy" Solano, vice-chairman of the authority board, called a meeting of one to order.

Sitting alone amongst a row of green chairs, Solano called for an adjournment due to a lack of quorum and the scheduling of the next meeting.

Newly appointed commissioner Irene Hueso-Mora walked into the chambers and sat down in one of the green chairs.

"Where is everyone?"

"Couldn't make it," Solano replied.

Hueso-Mora, who said she left her job early to make the meeting, asked, "Not even Romo?"

Solano shook his head, "No."

The two commissioners decided to call for a board meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in City Hall to accommodate Hueso-Mora's schedule.

Solano banged the gavel.

According to an agenda provided for what was supposed to be Friday's meeting, the housing authority board plans to discuss the new problems with the implementation of the 5H homeownership plan, the continuing debate over the resident council's election procedures and the status of proposed senior housing developments.
