Supervisors asked to direct redistricting committee

May 14, 2001|By RUDY YNIGUEZ, Staff Writer

The county Board of Supervisors Tuesday will be asked to give direction to the committee tasked with drawing new supervisorial district lines.

The committee has asked the board whether the county's two state prison populations should be included in the decennial calculations, what the definition is of an "outlying area" and whether each supervisor should have one, whether district boundaries should follow topographical and/or roads to the extent possible with the 2000 census block data and when public hearings on the committee's presentations should be made.

The Board of Supervisors meets in open session at 9:30 a.m. in the County Administration Center, 940 W. Main St., El Centro.

In other business, the board:

· will again discuss forming a "committee of the whole," which would meet on Mondays, replacing a two-member committee. The committee would not take formal action on items.

· will hear a request by the Sheriff's Office to approve a six-week vehicle-use agreement with General Dynamics Land Systems for the use of an emergency police rescue vehicle called a Prowler. The loan would be at no cost to the county and while in use it would be shared with other agencies.
