Pot plants found at Bard home, woman arrested

May 15, 2001|By DARREN SIMON, Staff Writer

BARD — A county Sheriff's Office deputy responding to a report of stolen roosters Monday discovered marijuana plants growing behind a home in this small, rural community.

A resident of the home, Teresa Ashby, 45, was arrested on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. She was booked into the county jail. Her bail information was unavailable this morning.

She was not arrested in connection with the marijuana plants. Sheriff's Sgt. Sharon Stogner of the Winterhaven substation said that aspect of the case is still under investigation.

The marijuana was found about noon as a deputy was investigating reports from the Yuma County Sheriff's Office that roosters had been stolen from that area.

Stogner said there was information that led deputies to investigate the area around Ashby's home on Ross Road.

While the deputy did not find the stolen roosters, four pots containing marijuana plants were found in a bushy area just behind the house.
