Imperial council sets hearing on nuisance

May 16, 2001

IMPERIAL — The Imperial City Council will stage a public hearing at its regular council meeting tonight to discuss its proposed nuisance abatement draft ordinance.

The public is invited to attend the meeting to learn about the proposed ordinance and make comments.

Copies of the draft ordinance may be obtained in City Hall at 420 S. Imperial Ave. The meeting is at 7 tonight in council chambers, also at 420 S. Imperial Ave.

The white van was painted with the insignia of an electronics company and was loaded with ladders and other equipment, spokesman Fernando Grijalva said.

During a checkpoint stop, a patrol agent grew suspicious of the van's driver and passenger, who were dressed in overall-type uniforms, because they appeared nervous, Grijalva said.

They were sent to a secondary inspection point, where a drug-sniffing dog helped agents discover 92 bundles of marijuana hidden behind tools.

The men were turned over to the Riverside Sheriff's Office for prosecution.
