50 years ago — Tomorrow veterans of America's wars will join forces with men on active duty and reserve units in honor of Armed Forces Day in Brawley.

40 years ago — A drive to get a 350-acre freshwater fishing and swimming lake in the Ramer-Finney basin north of Wiest Lake is snowballing. The lake will be created in a earth-fill dam north of the Wiest Lake Road.

30 years ago — Beginning June 11, telephone customers in El Centro will be accorded extended area service to Brawley, Holtville and Calexico by Pacific Telephone Co. Brawley residents will be able to call toll-free to El Centro, Calipatria and Imperial.

20 years ago — There may be more holes in county roads, longer waits for sheriff's deputies and fewer county workers as Imperial County tightens its belt. The county is facing at least a $1 million deficit that may top $3 million, according to county officials.
