Thank You: Calexico FFA excels at state finals

May 19, 2001

On behalf of the Calexico FFA, I would like to inform you on the results from the FFA state judging finals held on May 5 at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo.

The Calexico FFA was the sole representative of the Imperial Valley in vegetable judging, specialty animals and livestock judging.

Our 1,000-mile excursion was a pleasant experience since our vegetable team, comprised of Esmeralda Aguilera, Johanna Ruiz, Salvador Hurtado and Monica Sandoval took third in the state in Vegetable Judging and ninth overall in the state.

Our specialty animal team comprised of Roxanne Espinoza, Tess Osuna and Carl Santiago, took ninth in rabbit judging and 18th overall. Our livestock team comprised of Danilu Ramirez, Christian Ortiz and Eduard Mercado competed well in this contest. There were 175 contestants, 70 teams and our team ranked 34th. Our last team was comprised of five freshman and competed in a general knowledge contest about the FFA, called BIG. (Best Informed Greenhand). It was comprised of Pamela Rodriguez, Sofia Gonzalez, Adriana Zambrano, Priscila Macedo and Melissa Carvajal. Over 300 member competed in this contest.

As the FFA adviser and coach of these five judging teams, I am extremely proud of their committment and dedication to the contests. Their placings speak for themselves, as well as their effort to be the only serious contenders from this valley.

I wanted to share this information in order to allow the rest of the Imperail Valley know that the Calexico FFA is alive and well
