CALEXICO — U.S. Customs inspectors seized more than 68 pounds of cocaine and arrested a Mexicali man found with the narcotic as he attempted to cross the border Saturday.
According to a press release provided Monday by Customs officials, David Verduzco-Higuera, 22, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. as he was trying to enter into the United States at the downtown Calexico Port of Entry.
The press release states that inspectors found 27 packages of cocaine in the car Verduzco-Higuera was driving. The cocaine was found in the quarter panels of the vehicle.
A Customs canine detected the drug after the car was referred to the secondary inspection area.
Verduzco-Higuera was arrested at the scene on suspicion of unlawful importation of a narcotic. He was booked into the county jail without bail.
