A report of a missing 6-year-old El Centro boy Wednesday led police and volunteers to conduct a two-hour search before it was determined the boy was safe with his mother.

El Centro police officials said they received a call from the boy's father about 4 p.m.. The father said the boy had last been seen leaving school.

Police immediately launched a search that included calling in volunteers from the police Explorers program and the citizens' volunteer patrol program.

Police notified local radio stations and asked that information about the boy be broadcast and that anyone with information about the boy's whereabouts contact police.

However, the search came to a quick end when the boy and his mother returned home to the 900 block of Sixth Street from a visit to Mexicali.

Police said the mother had picked up the boy and the father was not aware of it.
