Voice: Check out local youth shows

May 23, 2001

Over my lifetime in the Imperial Valley, I was a 4-H member and then a volunteer leader in youth activities. I also worked with student activities at Imperial Valley College.

Now as a retired senior I'm attending youth events instead of organizing them!

This past week I enjoyed two presentations by our young children and teen-agers. The first was the Brawley North County Arts presentation of "Thumbelina" and in El Centro the Southwest High School dance program "Connections."

In Brawley, Harriet Fasola and Rosemarie Wood directed the children, who mastered their parts to give five performances in four days. I was in awe of how it all came together!

In El Centro the teen-agers have the talented and dedicated Debi Buchanan for encouragement and instruction. Their enthusiasm is contagious and their dancing is really fun to watch.

If you have missed the previous programs I encourage you in the future to come out and enjoy our talented youth. For all of you who attend regularly — think of a senior friend and offer to bring the person along.
