40 years ago — Joseph R. Menirelle of Heber has made the dean's list at the University of California, Davis, according to the public relations office. Menirelle is studying vegetable crops.

30 years ago — Central Union High School, awarded a tax increase by district voters, can expect to collect about $31,500 more in taxes for the fiscal year than was collected the previous year.

20 years ago — County employees learned how hard times can get when the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday axed a favorite fringe benefit — out-of-town trips. That action followed a morning of talk about an ordinance that would permit in-county transfers to prevent lay-offs.
