Voice: Make Mexico take care of its people — in Mexico

June 02, 2001

Well, let's hope that with the idea Mexico has of furnishing those people who wish to cross the border illegally with survival kits, all the do-gooders will feel satisfied.

But don't expect the taxpayers to take it lying down. For Mr. Ruiz's information, I can't see where stopping these people from crossing illegally will have anything to do with the economy. We aren't trying to stop people who are doing business legally.

We must do all we can to stop those people who come here here with no jobs, no income and nowhere to live. We are tired of our tax dollars being spent without our consent on these people.

Mr. Hunter, rethink your plan. If money is available for lifelines and such, there are so many homeless people, low-income families already here who are in dire need of assistance. With summer almost on us, how many elderly people will have to die because they can't afford to turn on the air conditioner?

Let's take care of our own and let, or make, Mexico do the same.
