50 years ago — The three-day-old "Mexican Airlift" now operating from Imperial Valley to interior Mexican cities will be expanded to include four daily flights from the lower Rio Grande Valley in Texas on June 10.

40 years ago — A transient couple, whose dog bit two girls in Adams Park, may have kidnapped their pet from quarantine at the city pound, El Centro police said.

30 years ago — Imperial Valley workers joined 20,000 striking Western Union employees across the nation.

20 years ago — Ready or not, Imperial County is moving its $7 million jail "the first Monday after July 4." Prisoners will be moved to the new quarters almost two years after the contractual completion date in September 1979. The sheriff's administration moved into the new facility in rural El Centro late in 1980.
