U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 276 pounds of marijuana and arrested two men, one a U.S. citizen and the other a Mexican national, for drug possession Saturday.

According to Border Patrol officials, agents saw what may have been a transaction between a driver of an all-terrain vehicle and occupants of a pickup Saturday afternoon about 35 miles east of Calexico in the Buttercup Valley Recreation area.

When the vehicles sped away from each other, agents followed the pickup, which at first headed south toward Mexico but then turned toward Interstate 8.

Agents eventually stopped the pickup and while interviewing the two men in the vehicle agents saw two bundles in the cab of the vehicle, plus loose packages.

Upon investigation it was determined the bundles and packages held 276.9 pounds of marijuana.
