Police have captured a suspect thought to be responsible for the stabbing of a 24-year-old El Centro man several times in the upper body Saturday.

El Centro police Detective Fernando Alvarez said they think Antonio Ruben Martinez, 37, stabbed Anthony Benito, in a room in the Mayan Hotel, 595 State St., during an argument around 1 a.m.

Both men were living in the hotel. Police weren't sure what the argument concerned.

Martinez fled after the stabbing and was caught about 5 p.m. Sunday at Motel 6, 365 Smoketree Drive in El Centro.

Detectives had received information Martinez was staying at the motel. The knife thought to be used in the stabbing was found in Martinez's room at Motel 6.
