50 years ago — L.A. Skiles, a Valley hardwareman, has retired as general manager of the Brawley Desert Hardware Store. Skiles came to Brawley in 1920 from Antelope Valley and has been in the hardware business for 31 years.

40 years ago — The Seeley Seals used the combined one-hitter, thrown by Bruce Thomas and John White to push out a 3-1 victory over the Dessert Seed Tigers in the Sunbeam Little League play on June 2.

30 years ago — A professional manager for the Imperial County Airport will be named, the Board of Supervisors announced. According to Tunney Williams, chairman of the board, "I want a man out there to run that airport and I want the airport brought up to date."

20 years ago — Sheriff's investigators today are continuing their search for two men who allegedly abducted a Westmorland woman at gunpoint around midnight Wednesday then forced her to commit sex-related acts after transporting her to an isolated area.
