50 years ago — Major Ralph Wyse, army adviser to the 111th Cavalry Regiment of Imperial Valley, gave his views on Iran at the El Centro Rotary Club meeting yesterday. The major said there is an increase of hatred between oil companies and the Iranians.

40 years ago — A 14-year-old boy, who says he likes to watch fires, was arrested yesterday for investigation of arson. An El Centro policeman arrested the boy while firemen quenched flames in three boxcars south of Ross Avenue.

30 years ago — A proposed methadone maintenance clinic, a mental health clinic and a proposed "total health care" program will be considered by the Board of Supervisors at a special meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the courthouse in El Centro.

20 years ago — Fire officials today said the two blazes that broke out Saturday along El Centro's Main Street business district, destroyed five businesses, damaged three others — two extensively — and left charred ruins of property and merchandise valued in upward of $1.5 million.
