Calexico youths help plan Nosotros skate park

CALEXICO — David Little explained to the kids if they wanted a "kinked round rail," it was OK.

If they, "wanted to do a grab or grind," he could arrange that as well.

Little is a sales consultant for Coast Recreation Inc., a Newport Beach supplier of skate park components.

He worked with local youths Thursday who helped him plan the future skate park at Nosotros Park.

Moving little white replicas that represented future skate park parts around a matrixed pieced of paper, 13-year-old Javier Benitez and 12-year-old Seth Gutierrez put a ramp here, a rail here and then a "fun box" near their future half-pipe.

Little said any suggestions by the six youths who attended the workshop would be considered in the final design of the park.

Kent Hems and his company, HMC Architects in Calexico, will set up the skate park, estimated to cost $160,000, after the city Redevelopment Agency board officially signs off on the project.

Once the board does that, Hems said the 8,300 square-foot park will be open four to six weeks after the city makes an order to Little's company.
