CALEXICO — The Imperial County Sheriff's Office aided Mexicali authorities Thursday in searching for the body of a Mexicali youth who may have drowned in the All-American Canal this week.
Sheriff's Sgt. Rick Macken, county chief deputy coroner, said members of the sheriff's dive team worked with Mexicali police divers in the search for the body.
Divers entered the canal Thursday morning and afternoon but no body had been found as of presstime.
Macken said information was provided by another youth who saw the boy reportedly swimming in the canal near Anza and Hammers roads west of Calexico.
The youth said the boy reportedly went under the water and never surfaced.
Information was unavailable this morning on whether sheriff's divers were continuing the search today.
