BRAWLEY — The Brawley Union High School wrestling team hosted its 11th annual powder puff wrestling event here Friday where high school girls strapped on singlets and faced each other on the mat.
The girls were divided into two teams, the blue and the gold squads, with the gold team coming out on top 38-15.
Leading the gold team was Erin Rutherford, who was the only wrestler to take to the mat twice, picking up victories in both her matches.
Also winning for the gold team were Araceli Bonillas, Silvia Mendez, Marybell Torres, Gloria Noriega, Marquita Travis and Maria Valadez.
Winning for the blue team were Lauren Aguilera, Bianca Garcia and Julissa Ramirez.
Also being showcased in non-scoring exhibitions were wrestlers from Brawley's junior wrestling program.
In the exhibitions, in the 35-pound division Michael Prado took on Armando De La Rosa, at 65 pounds Anthony Liston battled Joseph Salazar and in the final exhibition at 105 pounds Cory Caffarella grappled with Efrain Zambrano.
