50 years ago — John H. Grant of El Centro, attending Pomona College, received the top honor when ROTC units awards were made last week. Grant was presented with the outstanding cadet medal.

40 years ago — Louise Willey, owner of San Pasqual & Cattle Co., of Brawley and a member of the Imperial Valley Rodeo Committee, has been named chairman for the 1961 Brawley Cattle Call rodeo.

30 years ago — Two Marine pilots were reported to be in good condition today at the Naval Air Facility El Centro dispensary after ejecting from a training aircraft about 7 a.m. on the NAF east-west runway

20 years ago — A 22-year-old Woodville man was arrested without incident Wednesday in Calexico on suspicion of kidnapping after police staked out the motel room in which the suspect and the victim were staying. Police said the victim, a 15-year-old Porterville girl, was rescued unharmed when police rushed the room where she and the suspect were staying.
