Gilles replaces Cindy Stillman, who resigned as director of both boards in May, stating she wanted to spend more time with her family. Stillman was director of the chamber and the BEDC for three years.
In a press release, Ted Riley, president of the chamber board, states Gilles "has gained a broad understanding of the functions of the chamber and the economic development commission."
Said incoming chamber president Steve Watte, whose term begins July 1: "She has been working very hard to fill in since Cindy left. We're very pleased with her performance."
Riley stated a search for a director with experience in economic development is under way.
Gilles has worked for the chamber for three years. As membership services director she was responsible for bringing in new members and designing programs and special events for the chamber.
The Brawley chamber has 380 active members in the local community who work "to promote the economic well-being of Brawley," according to Gilles.
The BEDC, a subsidiary of the chamber, markets the city and finds new businesses to stimulate growth in the city. The corporation is governed by its own board of directors.
