Thank You: Eagle Scout deserves big kudos

June 12, 2001

Congratulations to Ben Malan upon attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Ben, you are not just in the Boy Scouts of America, you represent the best of scouting. Your commitment, hard work, heart and achievement will provide inspiration to others and benefit to you over your entire lifetime.

Attaining the rank of Eagle Scout is recognition of your resiliency and your personal competency. Development of resiliency and personal competency skills is why employers and the military reward Eagle Scouts with additional pay, rank and responsibility. Eagle Scout is a visible sign that you can consistently plan, organize and carry through any task assigned.

Thank you for mentioning the businesses, youth and adult volunteers who helped you on the project and helped you along the trail. The honor is yours alone. Pride in your achievement belongs to your scoutmaster, cubmaster, committee members, adult volunteers and to your parents. Volunteers work to help every scout succeed, thrive on success and share a special bond with scouts and scouters past, present and future.

Congratulations, Ben, you are one of only six boys achieving the rank of Eagle Scout in Imperial County this year. I would like to extend an invitation to every boy in Imperial County to achieve recognition, resiliency and competency. I would also like to invite every boy to go camping, earn advancement, earn merit badges, go fund raising and have fun.

As Lord Baden-Powell stated, "Scouting is fun with a purpose."
