Jose C. "Roy" Nu--ez

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Frye Chapel & Mortuary at 384 W. Main St. in El Centro for Jose C. "Roy" Nuñez, 75, of Desert Shores, who died Sunday in his home.

Mass will be celebrated at 8 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Catholic Church in El Centro. Monsignor Thomas Vidra will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverside National Cemetery.

Mr. Nuñez was born Aug. 23, 1925, in El Centro. He was raised in El Centro and attended schools in Holtville. He enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the Philippines during World War II. He re-enlisted and served eight more years.

Following his military service, Mr. Nuñez returned to the Imperial Valley and began working as a truck driver, hauling produce. He later worked in air-conditioning and sheet metal business for more than 10 years.

Mr. Nuñez loved being a grandfather and spending time with his grandchildren, according to family.

Survivors include his daughter, Gloria Villa of Stockton; daughter and son-in-law, Janina and Stephen Guarino of Yucaipa; grandsons, Danny and Christopher Jones and Jesse Realvazquez, all of Yucaipa; sisters, Mercy Nuñez, Irene Swanberger, Esther Quesada and Jennie Delgado, all of El Centro; brothers, Danny Delgado of Tucson and Lupe Delgado of Stockton; and stepfather, Lupe Delgado Sr. of El Centro.

JOSEPH JESS "J.J." HERNANDEZ

Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in El Centro for Joseph Jess "J.J." Hernandez, 26, of El Centro, who died Saturday in El Centro. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m.

A determination of the cause of death is pending investigation.

Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Friday in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in El Centro with the Rev. Jaime Escobedo officiating.

Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.

Mr. Hernandez was born May 1, 1975, in El Centro. He was raised in El Centro and attended local schools, including Central Union High School. He worked in construction and had attended a barber school in San Diego.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lupita Meza, in 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Zulma Hernandez of El Centro; son, Joseph Jess Hernandez Jr. of El Centro; father and stepmother, Jess and Angelica Hernandez of El Centro; brothers, Jason and Jeff Hernandez, both of El Centro, and Tony Hernandez of San Diego; sisters, Jessica Hernandez of San Diego and Tammy Hernandez of Santa Barbara; stepsister, Anabel Esparza of El Centro; stepbrother, Aaron Esparza of El Centro; uncles, Tommy Meza of El Centro and George Meza of Los Angeles; aunt, Grace Rubio of El Centro; and maternal grandparents, Thomas and Guadalupe Meza of El Centro.
