Padres to host third Imperial Valley Day

June 13, 2001

SAN DIEGO — The San Diego Padres organization will be having its third annual Imperial Valley Day on Aug. 14 when the Padres host the New York Mets at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

Game time is 7:05 p.m. and ticket prices are $13.

"This year we are attempting to maximize attendance by Valley residents and at the same time give some of our less privileged youngsters an opportunity to see a professional baseball game in person," said El Centro City Councilman David Dhillon, who is coordinating this year's event in the Valley.

More than 1,200 seats have been reserved for Valley residents.

"Imperial Valley residents will be involved in the pregame ceremony as well as other events during the game," according to Dhillon.

Dhillon said he is hoping organizations and businesses will consider sponsoring a group of youths to attend by purchasing blocks of tickets.

"We also are encouraging businesses and organizations to purchase tickets for their members or employees," he said.

"Since the inception of this recognition day two years ago, interest and excitement has flourished between the San Diego Padres and the Imperial Valley," said Padres President Larry Lucchino.

"We are excited to have the Imperial Valley community once again at Qualcomm Stadium," said Enrique Morones, Padres' vice president of Hispanic and International Marketing.
