50 years ago — Three Imperial Valley soldiers were aboard the USS Thomas Jefferson when it docked in San Francisco today. The Valley men will return to their homes. The ship was loaded with Korean War Army veterans.

40 years ago — A 16-year-old student who said he was trying to be popular with the "socials" was arrested on a battery charge for throwing two tomatoes and one egg at an El Centro school official the afternoon of graduation last week.

30 years ago — Mail leaving the Imperial County Post Office will carry a cancellation stamp noting the 25th anniversary of the Navy Blue Angels, the jet-flying exhibition team. The die hub to stamp outgoing mail has arrived, reported Postmaster Tony Neff.

20 years ago — Martin Ortiz pitched the Royals to a 6-2 Senior Babe Ruth League victory over the Tigers, allowing but four hits and recording 15 strikeouts. Ortiz was the top offensive threat for the Royals, with three hits driving home two runs.
