HOLTVILLE — A man remained in custody this morning and another had yet to be arrested in connection with a reported double rape that occurred in this city and in a county area.

Arrested was Alex Padilla Padilla, 21, who resides in the 700 block of Walnut Avenue in Holtville. He was in county jail this morning after being booked Monday on suspicion of unlawful sex with a minor, according to the information from the Sheriff's Office.

Holtville Police Chief Charles Simpson said police are treating the case as a rape.

Simpson said there were few new details to report this morning.

According to authorities, two girls, one thought to be from Calexico and the other from Holtville, were walking in the area of the 700 block of Walnut when they were "enticed" into the home of Padilla.

Simpson said two adult males, one reported to be Padilla, befriended the girls. One of the males allegedly left the house with one of the girls and took her outside the city limits.

Padilla reportedly remained at the house with the other girl.

Simpson said police think at some point the man who took the girl into the county either attempted to rape her or did rape her. Simpson said the girl later was able to escape.

The girl went to a residence and called authorities, told them what had happened and asked them to go to the house where the other girl remained, Simpson said.

Officers responded to the house and found both the girl and Padilla.

The girls was taken to Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley for a rape examination.

Sheriff's investigators, who are handling the case of the girl who was taken into the county, were unavailable for comment this morning.
