OCOTILLO — The body of a man thought to be an undocumented immigrant was found in the desert west of here Monday by a U.S. Border Patrol helicopter crew.
The body was spotted near Highway 2 at 8 a.m. in an area known as a route for illegal immigration, said county Coroner Investigator Gary Hayes, who added the man likely died from heat exposure. The body had been in the desert for a week and a half to two weeks.
No identification was found around the body, and Hayes said he still is trying to determine the man's identity. He said the Mexican consulate in Calexico has been contacted about the case.
