50 years ago — Seven women and four men were arrested last night in Westmorland on charges of vagrancy and prostitution, said sheriff's deputies today. District Attorney's Office officers and sheriff's officers made raids on two businesses in Westmorland.

40 years ago — Today is the 60th anniversary of the Imperial Valley Press. A special edition commemorating the anniversary is included in today's paper. Featured are pages from past issues dating back to 1901, when the paper was founded.

30 years ago — Saying California's water withdrawals from the Colorado River will have to be curtailed when the Central Arizona Project becomes operative after 1981, the California Water Resources Association urged federal funding of additional studies to determine the feasibility of tapping Imperial Valley geothermal wastes to augment Colorado River supplies.

20 years ago — A room rate increase of 18 percent will be considered by the El Centro Community Hospital board when it meets tonight in the hospital. The proposal to increase hospital room rates from $135 to $160 a day is included in the $18 million 1981-82 budget proposed by the hospital administration.
