50 years ago — A Coachella Valley fruit packer will spend 75 days in the El Centro city jail in lieu of a $150 fine he could not pay. He was arrested by police for drunken driving.

40 years ago — "This hurts me more than it hurts you," a thief told a Calexico store attendant after robbing him of $125 from his wallet and a wristwatch. The apologetic thief pulled a knife and tied the attendant with his own belt.

30 years ago — The Imperial Valley Baseball League, a newly formed league for Imperial Valley men, had its first big organizational meeting in El Centro on Friday night. The new league set up rules and regulations for the coming season and started preparations on a schedule.

20 years ago — A Winterhaven couple has been booked on charges of kidnapping and sexual assault of a 22-year-old woman over the weekend. Bail has been set at $10,000 for both.
