B.P. agent injured when patrol car plunges into canal

CALEXICO — A U.S. Border Patrol agent was treated in El Centro Regional Medical Center for minor injuries after his patrol vehicle overturned into a canal near here Saturday.

The agent, whose name was not released this morning, was driving his vehicle on a dirt road south of Anza Road about 10:30 p.m.

According to a California Highway Patrol press release, the agent failed to negotiate a curve, which caused his vehicle to overturn into the canal.

The agent climbed out of the vehicle and canal and waited for emergency personnel to arrive. The agent was taken by a Calexico Fire Department crew to ECRMC.

The agent was complaining of pain to his head. He was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

No information was available on whether he remained in the hospital this morning.
