HEBER — Twenty-four firefighters from throughout the Imperial Valley battled a brush fire for two hours before extinguishing the blaze Sunday afternoon.

Imperial County Fire Department Capt. Lon Hettinger said the blaze erupted about 2 p.m. in a field area near Heber and Keffer roads.

Firefighters from the county and the El Centro, Calexico and Holtville departments responded to the blaze. There were no reports of injuries other than one firefighter who suffered dehydration after battling the blaze in 100-plus degree weather.

Before the fire was controlled it burned about 20 acres.

Hettinger said the cause of the fire was unknown this morning, adding firefighters planned to return to the site today to investigate.
