CALEXICO — Police here arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of attempted robbery after he allegedly beat a 15-year-old and tried to take money from the youth Monday afternoon.

Julian Pineda Sanchez, a Calexico resident, was booked into county jail on $50,000 bail following his arrest by Calexico police.

At 4:30 p.m. a 15-year-old Calexico boy walked into the police station saying he had been beaten by a man who had demanded money.

The boy reportedly told officers the man eventually let him go because he didn't have any money.

Police responded to the area around the 200 block of Birch Street, where the alleged attack had taken place.

Based on a description given by the boy, police spotted Sanchez and took him into custody. The boy reportedly identified Sanchez as the attacker.

Police alleged while no weapon was used, Sanchez struck the youth in the face and "insisted" the youth give him any money he had.

The boy did not suffer serious injuries and did not require medical attention.
