CALEXICO — U.S. Border Patrol agents seized 470 pounds of marijuana Tuesday after they saw several people cross the border illegally carrying large bundles near the Westside Main Canal.

The agents watched the people place the bundles inside a portable water tank 25 yards from the border.

After concealing the bundles inside the tank, the people went back into Mexico.

The agents notified Mexicali authorities and asked if they could assist in trying to locate the individuals.

While the suspects were not found, a Border Patrol canine unit searched the area and found the bundles placed in the tank contained some kind of drug.

The tank was taken to the El Centro Border Patrol station, where it was opened. Agents found 191 individually wrapped packages of marijuana totaling 470 pounds.
