Norman Watkins

Graveside and military services were conducted April 25 in Wickenburg, Ariz., for Norman Watkins, 84, of Wickenburg, a former Imperial resident who died April 20 in Wickenburg. Bill Taylor of Peoria, Ariz., officiated.

Mr. Watkins was born April 20, 1917 in Arkansas. He was a World War II veteran and fought in the Pacific Theater for four years.

He married Stella Watkins in Yuma on May 2, 1945. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the Imperial Irrigation District for 36 years and resided in Imperial for 48 years.

He was a member of the Church of Christ of El Centro for 37 years.

Survivors include his wife, Stella Watkins of Wickenburg; son, Bill Watkins of Placerville; daughter, Tricia Watkins of Wickenburg; sister, Mildred Mingus of Texas; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.



Visitation will be from 8 to 9 a.m. Saturday in Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley for Jimmie Z. Jones, 88, of Brawley, who died Friday in his home.

Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in Frye Chapel & Mortuary in Brawley. The Rev. Wilkie Davis of New Mount Olive Baptist Church of Brawley will officiate.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery in Brawley.

Mr. Jones was born April 5, 1913, in Beggs, Okla. He was raised in Oklahoma and moved to Brawley in 1940.

He married Irma Kyle Singh in Yuma on Oct. 31, 1942. He worked for Brandt Bros. Cattle Co., for 30 years.

He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Brawley until it closed. He then became a member of New Mount Olive Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma K. Jones, on Aug. 21, 1991.

Survivors include his step-grandchildren, Laurence Singh and Phyliss Stroud; and many cousins, nephews, nieces and devoted friends.
