50 years ago — The Imperial Irrigation District has assets of more than $57 million, an audit showed. Hutchinson and Bloodgood, certified public accountants, handled the audit and complimented the district on its bookkeeping system.

40 years ago — Three carloads of teen-agers tried to crash a party at the English Village Motel in El Centro yesterday evening. They refused to leave when asked, and in racing around the motel's road, nearly ran over a small boy.

30 years ago — Three Imperial Valley College students are interns in the Washington, D.C., office of Rep. Victor V. Veysey, R-38th District, this summer. They are Steve Logan, 21, of Holtville, Nancy Dickerson, 21, of Westmorland, and John McNeece, 20, of El Centro. Each is spending a six-week period studying and assisting in the operations of Veysey's congressional office.

20 years ago — A man fled with a sack full of money belonging to the El Centro branch of Bank of America on Monday after he presented a note to a teller that read, "I have a gun, give me your money," the FBI said today. Federal agents declined to comment on the amount of money taken during the daylight robbery. However, the Sheriff's Office said it amounted to about $300 in cash.
