Blair to serve on WFA board

June 30, 2001

Bill Blair, chief executive of the Imperial Valley Expo in Imperial, has been appointed to a two-year term on the Western Fairs Association board of directors and its newly created subsidiary, the California Fairs Alliance.

WFA is a nonprofit trade association serving the fair industry throughout the United States and Canada. Its subsidiary, the CFA, was created last year to specifically address the unique needs of California fairs, specifically legislative advocacy as most fairs are either state or county agencies.

Of the 16-member board, seven members represent the seven California geographic regions served by the association. Blair will represent the southern region that includes Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Ventura counties.

Sixteen fairs are in Blair's region, including the Del Mar Fair, Los Angeles County Fair, National Orange Show and National Date Festival in Indio. The remaining board members are representatives from member fairs from the Pacific Northwest, the North-Central region (Idaho, Canada, Alaska, Minnesota, Indiana and Utah) and the South-Central region of the U.S.

A total of 154 fairs are members of the WFA.

"While it means additional meetings to attend, this is a real honor and I'm excited about the opportunity to share ideas, closely work with some of the largest fairs in the west and, hopefully, make a difference," Blair said. "It is also a fantastic opportunity to showcase the Valley and what we are doing at the California Mid-Winter Fair & Fiesta."
