Start of expansion closes Highway 111 to traffic Sunday through July 11

July 03, 2001

Work to relocate a critical piece of Imperial Irrigation District drainage equipment will temporarily close Highway 111 between Worthington Road and Aten Road beginning at 6 a.m. Sunday. This section of the highway will reopen July 11.

Motorists will be directed around the closure to Dogwood Road using Aten and Worthington roads. Detour signs will be posted.

Motorists will have access to all local businesses throughout the course of the work. Access to Imperial Valley College will be available from Aten Road.

This is the first of three stages of work to upgrade Highway 111 from a two-lane highway to a four-lane expressway between Ross Road and Best Road. This $40.3 million 5-mile stage of work stretches from Ross Road to Worthington Road and is expected to be completed next year. The entire project should be open to traffic in 2004.

For more information call The California Department of Transportation construction information officer Marlene Davis at (619) 688-6939 or resident engineer Shawn Rizzutto at 355-8666.
