Body found in All-American Canal

July 06, 2001

CALEXICO — U.S. Border Patrol agents in the Drop 3 area of the All-American Canal near here found the body of a man in the canal at 10:45 a.m. Thursday.

Chief Deputy Coroner Sgt. Rick Macken said the man is thought to have been an undocumented immigrant who drowned while trying to cross the canal.

He said no identification was found on the body, and that is one reason he is thought to have been an immigrant. Macken said the clothing on the body was another indication the man was an immigrant.

The body had been in the canal for several days, Macken said. There were no signs of foul play.
