Car chase ends as speeds reach 100 mph

July 07, 2001

IMPERIAL — An Imperial reserve police officer was involved in a short pursuit that saw speeds top 100 mph early Saturday.

Reserve Officer Eddie Vasquez, who has been with the Imperial Police Department for four years, saw a car being driven recklessly near Clark and Aten roads northeast of town shortly after midnight.

When Vasquez attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled east on Aten, according to Imperial police Officer Joe Garibaldi.

The driver turned south on Highway 111 and drove to the El Centro city limits, when Vasquez dropped the pursuit because of high speeds.

Other authorities were notified but, Garibaldi said, no other agency took up the pursuit.
