SALTON CITY — Members of an Imperial family suffered major to moderate injuries after the minivan in which they were traveling overturned Saturday on Highway 86 west of here, about five miles south of the Imperial-Riverside county line, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.
Around 3 p.m., Jose Cervantez, 50, was driving his family when his vehicle's left rear tire blew out. As Cervantez began to lose control of the vehicle, he attempted to steer it toward the right shoulder of the roadway, instead rolling the vehicle onto to the dirt shoulder.
Cervantez and his wife Willhelmia, 47, suffered moderate injuries.
The couple's two children — who were not wearing seat belts during the accident — also suffered major injuries. Jose Cervantez and his wife did use seat belts.
The family was transported to Pioneers Memorial Hospital, Highway Patrol Officer Hector Tabarez said this morning. Information on the family's condition was not available this morning.
