50 years ago — Unknown gunmen wounded two horses belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Parker south of El Centro. The Parkers reported today that two of their riding horses have been hit by small-caliber bullets. Neither of the wounds was fatal.

40 years ago — Imperial Irrigation District directors approved the construction of a new $52,000 office building in Imperial. The proposed location will be adjacent to City Hall in Imperial.

30 years ago — As much as $1 million could be spent in the next year to develop steam-producing geothermal wells in Imperial County, according to James Van Logan, manager of the Imperial Valley Development Agency.

20 years ago — The temporary housing of San Diego County prisoners at the new jail facility south of El Centro ended Friday as chartered buses return the inmates to their permanent base in Vista.

Less than 50 of the original prisoners, sent to Imperial County by court order during the eight-day strike by San Diego sheriff's deputies, made the return trip home.
