I just had to answer the terrible letter written to this newspaper by Madeline Olsen regarding the Imperial Valley Humane Society. I have been a regular volunteer and donating member of the Humane Society for many years. I drop by the shelter on an average of twice a week at different times of the day. There are times when I am asked to help out with the cleaning of the many cages if Charlene is short of help.
The only time I have seen the shelter dirty is the first thing in the morning before the cages are cleaned, the floor is scrubbed, the litter boxes dumped and scrubbed, the dog pens scraped and washed down and all the animals given fresh food and water. This is done every single day and it takes many, many hours and dedication to do this day after day after day.
After all this cleaning is done, all the dogs are let out of their cages to play in the enclosed yard. The cats are allowed to wander in and out all day and are brought in each evening. Believe me, Charlene loves to see these animals get good homes. Madeline, you forgot to mention the trips we make to Thousand Palms to get our shelter dogs and cats spayed and neutered to make them more adoptable. You didn't mention the dogs that have been in the shelter for several months that we take to Animal Auction League so that they can be taken to their adoption days because we simply cannot find homes for them in the Imperial Valley.
