Gypsy Folk Ensemble set to perform at local libraries

The Gypsy Folk Ensemble, an ethnic dance company dedicated to the goal of preserving and performing traditional dances from around the world, will appear at area libraries Wednesday and Thursday.

The ensemble will be presenting an interactive dance program saluting the area libraries' summer reading program theme "Read Through Space and Time."

The ensemble will appear Wednesday at 10 a.m. in El Centro Public Library, 539 State St.; at 11 a.m. in the El Centro Community Center branch, 375 S. First St.; at 12:30 p.m. in the William Moreno Junior High branch in Calexico; and at 2 p.m. at Camarena Memorial Library, 850 Encinas Ave. in Calexico.

Thursday morning at 10 a.m., interested children and adults can catch the ensemble at Brawley Public Library, 400 Main St.

The remainder of Thursday's performances will be at branches of the Imperial County Free Library. At 1:30 a.m. there will be a show at the Meyer Memorial Library, 101 E. 6th St. in Calipatria.

The Calipatria branch library also will be sponsoring a performance at 1 p.m. at the Carmichael Center on North Park. The final Valley appearance will be at 3 p.m. at the Westmorland branch of the county library, 201 S. C St.

All of these libraries are offering activities as part of their summer reading programs. The aim of these programs is to encourage area youth to read and take advantage of what the library has to offer.
