Youth sports: Junior wrestlers take fourth at nationals

FRESNO — Brawley Gladiator Chauncey Rowe took fourth in the novice class at 105 pounds at the Kids Freestyle U.S. National Championships here this past weekend.

Rowe was not the only local to place at the tournament. Imperial junior wrestler Anthony Elizalde took fourth at 140 pounds in the schoolboy class and his brother Raymond placed sixth at 75 pounds in the schoolboy class. Imperial's Cameron McNeer competed in the event and took eighth at 112 pounds in the novice division.


SEELEY — The winners of Saturday's Imperial Valley BMX Association races were:

Girls — Saquia Davis (11) and Samantha Culp (14).

Cruiser — Brian Cannon (26-30) and Rene Gonzalez (31-35).

Novice — Alec Ormand (6) and Tyler Gene Spence (9).

Intermediate — Joshuah Tilander (8), Tristan Roche (10) and Donald Smail (19-27).

Expert — Jayson Cardenas (6), Juan Carrillo (11), Brent Smail (13) and Justin Lofton (15).


Cru earns split

SAN DIEGO — The Cru earned two wins and took two losses at the Runnin' Rebels 18-and-under tournament here this past weekend.

Led by Robert Christensen, the Cru knocked off the Saints 71-39 and beat the Runnin' Rebels 59-51. The Cru's Vincent McSee had 28 points and 20 rebounds against the Rebels. Tusane Ginger added 16 points against the Saints.

The Cru (26-10) lost to Estrada Courts 57-56 and West Orange County 65-52.
